  • I've not worked with a health coach before. What do you do?
Health coaches support clients through various services that foster healing, optimize health, and enhance well-being. We guide clients to tap into their inner resources that leverage their strengths and improve weaknesses. We fill the gap – we work with groups and individuals – on prevention and wellness matters from a holistic perspective.
  • What is a Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach anyway?
Without redesigning the wheel, the best place for you to visit is the NBHWC's website.
  • Why does your title include both 'health' and 'wellness'?
When it comes to health, it is more straight forward. Conveying Awareness covers four pillars: lifestyle, exercise, attitude, and nutrition. When it comes to wellness, our conversations will be broad and open and within eight dimensions of wellness. In our conversations centered on you, we may explore emotional, physical, occupational, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, and financial areas of well-being. Let's peel back the layers and see what's there. I meet you where you are. We focus on what's working and then grow this awareness together.
  • What is your method and style of health coaching?
Health coaching is a partnership with the client. Trust and respect build the foundation creating a safe space for clients to be seen, heard, and valued. Through empathy in action, 'being with', affirming, exploring with open questions and reflective listening, clients can explore their reasons for change, share their values, while dreaming what is possible through MI (Motivational Interviewing), AI (Appreciative Inquiry), and CC (Compassionate Communication).
  • I’m a new client, what is the process to meet with you?
All new clients must schedule a no-cost online Discovery Session. If you are a previous client before April 2022, please schedule a Discovery Session as there is new information to provide you. During this call, we may discuss some of your goals to see if we are a good fit for each other and I may ask you to share about your connections with your health care team/provider(s). Visit the Services tab for a current list of coaching services before we meet during the Discovery Session so that you have an idea as to which service(s) you're most interested in.
  • Are you a medical provider?
I am not. I operate my coaching practice within the recognized scope of practice for a health coach. You may reference the Ethics tab on my website, #6 for more information on this. However, for purposes of brevity, I do not advise, treat, prescribe, meal plan, or interpret/order labs nor do I provide therapy. In my coaching agreement, I cover more of what I do and will not do. (Meal planning falls under practicing medicine and the best person to offer this level of support is your doctor, a nutritionist and/or a dietitian. I can, however, teach you the tools to meal plan on your own.)
  • What is your educational training?
I completed the life stage courses with the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute (DSWI) in 2012 and later in 2014. In 2021, after 24 weeks of advanced training with the DSWI, I earned the title, Master Certified Health Coach, covering 135 competencies meeting the rigorous standards set forth by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching (NBHWC). As of 1 November 2024: DSWI is now known as ACE. My credentials remain. With my certification in 2021, I sat for the board in May 2022, and passed on my first attempt. As a Board Certified Coach, I am required to complete 36 CEs every 3 years. This tells you, as the client, that like other health providers, we value the industry and the client's well-being by staying up-to-date on the ever-changing needs of one's health and wellness, and that we also stay in the know about national wellness trends.
  • Do you offer in-person coaching services?
Review to the service description for more info. For local and established clients who have booked a package, in person sessions may be an option. In addition, arrangements can be made for in-person group presentations. I am also available for online speaking engagements at a fee.
  • I’m not interested in nutrition or fitness guidance, what else do you offer?
That’s a good question. Often, I’m asked this as the general assumption is that my services only cover these two areas. As mentioned above, other pillars of wellness include lifestyle and attitude which means we can center our conversations around healthy habits designed by you and your overall well-being – how you navigate your personal pathway to wellness. During a Discovery Session, we will explore the whats -- what is working, what are your goals, etc., and we can decide if we are a mutually good fit. (In coaching sessions, we get to explore the hows -- how to meet your goals, the steps you may take to get you there, etc.)
  • I’m interested in nutrition support but I already have a plan I follow. Can you still support me?
Yes. With your permission, sharing what your plan is will help me support you in your short- and long-term goals. When coaching, I do not make any recommendations without your consent. My coaching is client-centered; there are no meals, supplements, or other programs that I require you purchase in order for us to meet.
  • I’ve booked a Discovery Session, now what?
You will receive an email from me with a couple things to consider before we meet. During the Discovery Session, we will chat about service offerings towards the end of our conversation. If you would like to see what is offered before we meet, visit the Services tab and check out the Coaching Packages and A La Carte menus.
  • What communication should I expect once I book a coaching session with Conveying Awareness?
You will receive correspondence from Wix and conveyawareness @ gmail.com. As soon as you book a package or individual coaching service (not including self-paced classes or small group coaching), you will receive a Welcome Packet that includes a Coaching Agreement and The Framework (Client Intake Form). These are required to be completed, signed, and sent back 2 days before your first session or your session may be rescheduled. You may also receive reminders from Wix and me via text.
